The Satterthwaites started learning about compressed earth blocks in the summer of 2022. They bought a hand press from Aureka in India and invited Bob DeJong to come and teach a workshop where they made blocks and started construction on a small shed. In the summer of 2023, they and the Lundbergs pressed enough blocks for two small homes on the hand press and constructed the foundation and walls for those homes. This past summer, they developed the manufacturing process for utilizing a continuous-feed mixer and semi-automatic press for CEB, also from Aureka. With the help of Bill Sampson and others, they spent a few months on setup and system development. They are now operating close to full production speeds and producing beautiful blocks for homes and outbuildings.
